This report assesses the ESG performance of WEG, a supplier for AngloGold, and AngloGold itself based on sustainability reports for the years 2022 and 2023. Using our methodology, which focuses on key ESG themes, we assigned progress scores to each company. These progress scores measure each company's advancement towards their ESG objectives. AngloGold achieved a score of 13.29, indicating notable progress in their ESG initiatives. In comparison, WEG received a score of 10.93, reflecting a moderate level of progress in their ESG efforts. Due to data gaps, we could only compare mutual themes, and these gaps might affect WEG’s overall score. By examining these common themes—Scope 3 GHG emissions, waste generation, and water consumption—we aim to assess the alignment between WEG and AngloGold and identify areas for potential improvement in their ESG practices.

WEG and AngloGold’s ESG performance across the three key themes is not fully unfied. WEG shows a slight increase in Scope 3 GHG emissions, while AngloGold has achieved a modest reduction, indicating better progress in emissions control. In waste management, WEG demonstrates a stronger reduction rate compared to AngloGold, reflecting a more effective approach to waste reduction. However, WEG’s water consumption has increased significantly, whereas AngloGold’s water usage has risen only slightly, highlighting a need for WEG to enhance its water conservation efforts. Overall, while WEG aligns well with AngloGold in waste management, improvements in emissions and water consumption are needed for better alignment with AngloGold’s ESG standards.

While WEG has made promising progress in waste management, there is room for improvement in reducing Scope 3 GHG emissions and water consumption to better align with AngloGold’s ESG performance. In order for the supplier relationship to be strong and in line with AngloGold’s ESG objectives, WEG should improve its strategies for reducing emissions and conserving water. It is crucial for WEG to closely align with AngloGold’s practices in these areas, as WEG’s performance can have an impact on AngloGold’s overall ESG score and sustainability goals. Therefore, fostering this alignment will not only lead to a more sustainable partnership but also potentially improve WEG’s ESG performance and positively contribute to AngloGold’s overall ESG outcomes.
